Sorry Australia – Disney+ now cracking down on password sharing – get ready to pay even more

When Disney+ launched in Australia five years ago it was $89.99 for the year, and there was no mention in the terms and conditions about households or password sharing. A lot has changed in five years.

Disney+ is now $139.99 annually, an increase of more than 50%. But for 4K content which was originally included in that $89.99 price, it’s now $179.99 – an increase of 100%!

So let’s just leave aside that outrageous price change far above inflation, and bring you the sad news that if your Mum, Dad, Grandparents, Kids or mates are using your password to access Disney+ at their place. All that is about to end.

Just as Netflix did – Disney+ is cracking down on account sharing, and wants you to pay $7.99 for another “member” of your household who can live in another location.

Those delightful terms and conditions or “Subscriber Agreement” now reflect their ability to enforce this change, and that’s about to hit Australian users

Account Sharing. Unless otherwise permitted by your Service Tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household. “Household” means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein. Additional usage rules may apply for certain Service Tiers. For more details on our account sharing policy, please visit our Help Centre. We may, in our sole discretion, analyse the use of your account to determine compliance with this Agreement. If we determine, in our sole discretion, that you have violated this Agreement, we may limit or terminate access to the Disney+ Service and/or take any other steps as permitted by this Agreement (including those set forth in Section 6 of this Agreement). You will be responsible for any use of your account by your rousehold, including compliance with this section.

EFTM understands the “Extra Member” price for Disney+ will be $7.99, and will be limited to a single extra account, not two as Netflix allows.

Sorry mum, you’re going to have to get your own account:)
