Amazon owned Ring has today announced the latest generation of hardware with the new Ring Doorbell 3 and Doorbell 3 Plus as well as new Chime and Chime Pro.
The new Ring Doorbell 3 and Doorbell 3 Plus are substantively the same offering an improved wireless connection that supports dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wifi, and improved motion zones with options to set it between 1.5 to 4.5 metres.
The main difference between the two is the new Pre-Roll feature on the Ring Doorbell 3 Plus, which captures up to four seconds of black and white video before a motion alert is even activated. The pre-roll video will give you a more complete picture of what’s happening around your home.
The pre-roll video required the inclusion of a triple camera setup in the Doorbell Plus 3, two of which are black and white and create a four second preview which leads into the FullHD 1080p video which streams to your smartphone, tablet or PC. You can also speak to people through the doorbell as well.
The Ring Doorbell 3 and Doorbell 3 Plus are both powered by a rechargeable, quick-release battery pack or you can simply add them to the existing hardwired doorbell wiring.
Just like their predecessors, the new Ring Chime and Chime Pro support notifications in your home with up to 30+ Classic & Seasonal Tones. The new Chime Pro now includes a built-in nightlight, as well as a wifi extender which Ring says will improve and expand wifi connectivity across users’ Ring Doorbells and Cams. The new Chimes also look a lot better than the previous models, at least to me.
The Ring Doorbell 3 and Doorbell 3 Plus are available to pre-order now for $329 and $369 respectively with stock shipping out on the 28th of April. The new Ring Chime and Chime Pro will be going on-sale in Australia on May 14th for $49 and $79 respectively. You can pre-order now from Ring and Amazon.
