With school holidays upon us and plans in place to head off hiking, walking or just having fun, keeping the family in contact is a must, even when there’s no mobile reception. UHF radios are a great way to do it and the Uniden UH45 radios are a fun, compact way to do it.
With a three-kilometer range and up to 20 hours of battery life, Uniden’s UH45-4 UHF Radios are small enough to clip to your belt, or slip into a pocket to help keep you in touch at shopping centres, parks and even in remote areas when camping or hiking. They even have a built-in LED light for when the sun goes down.
The radio can tune in up to 80 UHF channels with the channel and settings displayed on the backlit LCD display on the front. I remember playing around with walkie talkies as a kid discovering how they operated and hearing the conversations which were publicly transmitted. To help parents filter out some of those conversations there’s a Kid-Zone function which Uniden says ‘lets parents block out unwanted conversations, providing assurance that their children can only communicate with familiar and trusted family members and friends.’

They run with either standard AAA or rechargeable batteries with a microUSB connector for charging.
