You might remember the Nanoleaf Aurora and Canvas products that the EFTM crew has had a love/hate relationship with. It’s a great product in theory but hits a couple of snags that make it hard to see mainstream uptake.
As we launch into CES this week, LaMetric has released a similar product they call SKY but with some key differences that make it just that little bit cooler.
SKY is wall mounted light panels that the user can personally shape. Using millions of available colours, the lights can be tailored to suit your mood or decor. But it’s the 32 colour zones in each triangle piece that really sets this apart from the rest that allows the user to display words or even pictures.
Releasing in a starter pack of 8 tiles with additional tiles available for purchase separately, some very cool pictures can be created. Imagine a business displaying their live social media ‘likes’ or a charity displaying money raised for a particular cause. The possibilities endless.
What is one of the most appealing features of the SKY with just the starter pack is the ability to build a sky face using the multi-light pixels build into each tile. There are 20,000 faces available but if you want to get really creative, you could even create your own.
Setup requires sticking the panels in the shape of your choice on the wall using double sided tape, then connecting the panels with the smartphone app to recognize the assembled shape. From there, you can control SKY with the app or through Siri, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
One problem still exists even on the SKY and it’s that dreaded cable that will hang down the wall.
